Property purchased in summer 2008

We purchased our beautiful Huasna (pronounced Wasna) Valley Ranch in the summer of 2008.  We first visited the property earlier that year in the spring when everything was green and growing.  I took a few photos at that time.

The property was gorgeous and we loved it immediately.  It was very scenic with rolling hills covered with lupin , many oaks,  lots of wildlife, and flat usable land for the horses.  It also had artisticly run-down barns, a very old abandoned home, many ancient cross fences,  and 22 acres that had been dry farmed.  Plus a 1980’s 3 bedroom 2 bath home.

On closer inspection the ranch did have a few draw backs.  The 22 acres had been dry farmed yearly and was depleted of nutrients.  The native pasture was also suffering from yearly over grazing.  In some places the weeds were thick and knee high.  And a giant wash out was threatening to eat up an entire pasture.  (more about this later) And lastly the ground squirrel population was completely out of control.   As you can imagine we had our work cut out for us.
